Mathmos Thaw Light: The Ice Encased Candle

We've always known that ice and fire don't combine, as fire has the absolute power over ice and melts it in no time. That theory still applies, but this time at least it's joyful to watch. The Mathmos Thaw Light is a tea light holder that encases your candle in a shade made out of ice. Here's how it works: You fill up the silicone mould in the stainless steel tray, fill it up with water and put it in the freezer and then pop the ice shade and put it over your candle. The shade starts to melt slowly back into the mould over 3 hours. This candle makes the perfect replacement for the boring candles on your dinner table.

Twist Together Lamps

The Twist Together Lamps are interesting modern light sculptures. They come in four blocks per set that allow you to create your own geometric light installation. The lamp uses low voltage LED lights so it does not consume a lot of energy, the candy set can be used to create a funky vibe while the chocolate set can create a warm atmosphere.



The Twist Together Lamps don't really give off much light, so it is not recommended for people who require strong lighting. It is prefect as a night light though. Another thing that is seen a down side to these rather delicious lamps is that they don't have a switch. Other than that, it's great fun, it looks delightful and anyone who enjoys designing, building and putting things together would really like these.

CAPTCHA Art

CAPTCHA annoys that crap out of me. If I'm lucky, I'd get a word that I can actually type... but most of the time it is harder than a math problem. But who would have thought that CAPTCHA would actually make a rather interesting painting on someone's wall?

I came across this Etsy shop, what the artist does is capture 'attractive' CAPTCHA images... whatever attractive is in this case, and then recreate them in acrylic.

Paintings are 5x7 canvas on a wooden stretcher and sold for $60 each. This would make a perfect gift for that special geek in your life (that could be you too), not only it is unique in concept but only one is available of each.
